What is The Volunteers in Medicine Clinic

The charity clinic in St Charles  provides comprehensive, life saving care to low income, uninsured patients 18 – 65 years of age. These patients fall in the “gap” of earning too much money to qualify for Medicaid and not enough to afford commercial health insurance.

For every $1 donation we receive we estimate that we provide $20 in medical services!

By comprehensive care we mean that it provides: office visits, hospitalization, surgery, specialists, labs and treatments all available at no charge to the patient. We use volunteer physicians and nurses but require donations to operate. For every $1 donation we receive we estimate that we provide $20 in medical services! Truly a great service for a great cause!

Many of our patients work hard but their jobs don’t provide healthcare benefits and they don’t make enough money to be able to afford the high cost of healthcare insurance premiums. The clinic is in St. Charles and treats patients from Lincoln and St. Charles counties.

We have experienced that patients who receive timely preventative and consistent healthcare are healthier, happier, and more productive citizens. They also make better employees, parents and neighbors.

They are more likely to work and get off of public assistance programs. The clinic saves society money because patients go to the hospital emergency department less often and avoid complications and premature death due to treatable illnesses. In short charitable healthcare makes our entire community stronger!!!
